Scenario: One of the preaching workshop people joins two others who are known as especially caring. They are open to learning more about responding to suffering or how to navigate an ICU. Cindy wants to take an eight week class online for caregiving since it has a full scholarship; afterward she shares the “best of” with the other two. She also makes a presentation to session with two recommendations on what to do when someone in the church goes to the hospital. The other two talk with the mentor and presbytery catalyst to choose a book, “Christian Caregiving as a Way of Life.” The catalyst hires a local chaplain to lead a six-week book study during the Sunday school, or on a Sunday evening open to anyone. They decide to make it the late spring small group offering for the church and several others (friends, a sister) join in.
Time invested: September-October 2025 – the eight week class for one person, six Sundays for the book study for the other two and several others.
Grant provided resources: Catalyst and mentor help Cindy navigate enrolling in the online class, and identify a chaplain to lead the book study. The tuition for the online course for Cindy is paid along with purchasing her a $65 external computer camera/microphone so she can join a few zoom sessions. Grant funds buy the small group study books and pay the chaplain to lead. The mentor to check in with both Cindy and the book group to encourage them and hear how they have grown.
